Palmer Luckey, the creator of the widely popular Oculus Rift Virtual Reality headset, has reportedly created a modified VR headset that can kill the user if they die in the game they are playing. Yes, you red that right. If you die in the game, you die in real life.
According to Luckey:
When an appropriate game-over screen is displayed, [explosive] charges fire, instantly destroying the brain of the user.
The creation of the lethal gadget was apparently inspired by the series Sword Art Online, an anime based around a VR video game that kills its players if they die in-game, or if the device is removed from their head.
There are obviously no plans to release the device to the public. Luckey says its just a piece of office art for now, not that many gamers are eager to risk the ultimate game-over experience.
