Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison was taken off the team's injury report and will play in its Week 1 road game against the New York Giants, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported on Friday (September 6).

Addison was carted off the field during a training camp practice last month, however, suspected to have avoided a serious injury, head coach Kevin O'Connell confirmed to reporters the following day.

"I think he's going to be OK," O'Connell said via Matthew Coller of Purple Insider on August 14.

Addison was selected by the Vikings at No. 23 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft and had a breakout rookie season, recording 70 receptions for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns. The former Biletnikoff Award winner's injury came hours after rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy underwent "successful" surgery, which confirmed that "a repair was necessary", effectively ruling him out for the 2024 season, O'Connell confirmed to reporters.

O'Connell previously confirmed reports that McCarthy suffered a meniscus tear in his right knee during a virtual press conference Tuesday.

"It has been determined that J.J. does have a tear in his meniscus, in his right knee. He will need to undergo a procedure, obviously that will hopefully take place in the near future here," O'Connell said via Vikings.com. "But as far as a timeline on the injury, that will be determined during the procedure, based upon whether it can just be a cleanup or potentially a repair. That won't be able to be determined until that procedure takes place. I would just be speculating on a timeline for a return at this point."

Veteran quarterback Sam Darnold, who signed with the Vikings in the offseason prior to McCarthy being drafted, was long pegged as the team's starting quarterback for the 2024 season. Darnold, a former No. 3 overall pick, threw for 297 yards, two touchdowns and one interception on 28 of 46 passing while serving primarily as a backup for the San Francisco 49ers in 2023.
