Here's Where North Carolina Ranks Among The Best States To Raise A Family

Starting a family is a big decision, one that requires a lot of thought to decide when and where is the best place to raise kids. To help narrow down the search, a new study by WalletHub has compared each state to determine which is the best for raising a family.

Massachusetts took the top spot while New Mexico came in last.

So, where did North Carolina rank on the list?

Number 38

While not at the bottom of the list, North Carolina received low marks in affordability as well as health and safety. The Tar Heel State did, however, get higher ratings for family fun, education, and childcare.

The top 10 states for raising a family, as determined by the list, are as followed:

  1. Massachusetts
  2. Minnesota
  3. North Dakota
  4. New York
  5. Vermont
  6. New Hampshire
  7. New Jersey
  8. Washington
  9. Connecticut
  10. Utah

To determine the list, WalletHub compared each state using five factors: family fun, health and safety, education and childcare, affordability, and socio-economics. These factors were then evaluated using 52 relevant metrics, such as share of families with young children, pediatricians per capita, life expectancy at birth, violent crimes per capita, graduation rate, parental leave, housing affordability, separation and divorce rate, and more.
